Soldiers' Memorial Gardens
1939-1945 World War II Honour Roll by Walter Pretty and David Jarvis.
The world conflict of Nineteen Thirty-Nine
Follow’d the Treaty of Nineteen Nineteen,
The economics of Nineteen Twenty-Nine
Established with stress, the in-between:
The arms overlaid the ideologies
Defin’d by separate national policies.
The men and women of Goolwa heard the call,
In pride, they wore their uniforms early,
On battlefield, on land, in sky, at sea;
In willingness and duty they gave their all.
Six men were listed for Supreme Sacrifice,
For Valour on the Township Honour Roll
To rest in quiet time and place, the soul
In its Valhalla and Paradise.
They show’d the way in courage, they went before;
Their names, preserv’d, liveth for ever more.
