Proverbs of Squash : Point 9, by david jarvis 2022.

True squash has built its temple;

It has trained all seven pillars.

It has fully prepared its nutrition;

It has mixed its vitamins and minerals;

It has also arranged its table.

It has drawn in its professionals

To advise from their learned heights above

the court:

“Whoever is inexperienced, let them come in here.”

True Squash says to the one lacking good sense:

“Come, eat my bread

And share in drinking the water that I have purified.

Leave behind your inexperience and train;

Train forward in the way of proficiency.”

The one who “corrects” a referee

invites dishonour,

And whoever reproves a wicked opponent will get hurt.

Do not reprove a wicked opponent, or they will

hate you.

Reprove a wise person, and they will

love you.

Share with a wise player, and they will

become wiser.

Coach someone righteous, and they

will add to their learning.

The fear of medocrity is the beginning

of high performance,

And knowledge of purposeful practice

is the pathway upwards.

For with diligence your games will be many,

And years will be added to your life.

If you become competent, you are competent to

your own advantage,

But if you are a wicked opponent, you alone

will bear it.

A stupid player swears loudly.

They are ignorant and know

almost nothing of value.

They sit at the entrance of a ruined court,

On a worn seat in the public places of the

Calling out to those passing by,

To those moving straight ahead on

their way:

“Whoever is inexperienced, let them

hit on this court.”

They say to those lacking quality

“Stolen secrets are sweet,

And knowledge hidden is pleasant.”

But they do not know that those

powerless in ability are in there,

That their guests are in the depths of

the Grave.
