Proverbs of Squash : Game 2, by david jarvis, Winter day 4 2022.

My athletes, if you accept these sayings
as your own
and value these directions,
by visualising the processes
and connecting your neuromuscular system;
if you call me for understanding,
and speak your own truths;
If you keep training for silver,
and keep searching for concealed gold,
then you will be courageous during hardship,
and discover the wisdom of Truth.

For competent coaches themselves give advice,
from their mouths comes educated intelligence.
Competent coaches gather practical resources for their athletes,
they shield those training fairly.
Competent coaches watch out for injustice
and guard their athletes from harm.

After reading the rules,
you will understand what is good and fair,
the entire rule book is valuable.
When synthesis occurs development becomes sustained,
Rationality will guide every choice,
and planning will save you from poor decisions,
from opponents or fools walking in their own darkness.

Rejoice in right doings, find joy in goodness.
Those whose paths are straight and
whose course work is aligned
will save you from wayward individuals,
and from the smooth words of immoral associations.
Let go of lesser companions from your youth,
forget the ones whom are not high performers,
their lifestyles stink of rot.
And their attitudes lead to stagnation and incompetence.
None of those fools are world champions,
nor will they ever attain a great ranking.

So follow the pathway of competent coaching,
and stay on the directions described.
For only the diligently training will become champions.
And the faultless move onwards and upwards.
As for the stupid, they will be let go from our environment,
and the dangerous will be asked to leave.

Optimising weight, another seed planted, by david jarvis 2022 winter day 4.

An apple is approximately 50 calories per 100 grams. Running will burn approximately 60 calories per kilometre. When I was fasting, i discovered that simply not eating was even more effective than exercising for loosing weight. As when i exercised I then got hungrier and ate all my calories burned, back on. Later I discovered optimising the balance between quality foods and quality exercise.

apple of knowledge : by david jarvis 2021.

If I train for 1 hour per day, how much restraint about eating do i need for the other 23 hours of that day?

What truly naffed me off was when i played squash for an hour, burning 600 calories, and then socialised with mates, drinking bourbon and coke and having a pizza – and discovered that the socialising facilitated me consuming 1500 calories after squash! Man that annoyed me greatly.

Covid hit the world and my squash socialising ceased – and that itself helped me loose 25 kilograms in 12 months, without even exercising at all. I discovered I respected whole foods, and disrespected easy junk food and enjoyable alcohols.

Whole foods might seem hard, but they’re easy for wellbeing.

These days I train in about 15 to 30 minute sessions nice and easy twice a day, just ticking over, and grow my own vegetables in the garden. My pumpkins have weighed over 2 kilograms, and I occasionally use one as a weight, then eat it! I’ve come down from 146 kilograms to 102 kg in about two years… still got 14 kilograms to loose though, so I gotta stay on the wagon. I hope my story helps you out a bit mate, good management is better than good luck!

Homegrown Pumpkins for lunch, 451 grams without the plate = about 220 calories of high quality food, by david jarvis 2022.

In Australia if the “food” has a nutritional label it very probably is not nutritious!

applying oneself to mathematics

Featuredall we have is now neon signage on black surface

Success is when a person sets a smart goal and then achieves that smart goal.

Specific. Measurable. Achievable. Realistic. Timely. = Smart.

It’s a simple mnemonic to make it easier to become successful.

Do you actually want to do things the super duper easy way? If not, why do you want to do them the hard way? Or just the average way? Optimisation of your motivation is necessary.

You can count to ten, I presume. Thus you are already a mathematician, in the most basic sense of the word. You can do one plus one equals two, thus you can achieve addition, and addition is a component of mathematics.

What else do you want to achieve with mathematics?

In the australian curriculum, which I can access entirely for free online, I’ll discover :

In the australian curriculum, which WE can access entirely for free online, we’ll discover :

In the australian curriculum, which YOU can access entirely for free online, you’ll discover :

“Use the language of ‘if ….then, ‘given’, ‘of’, ‘knowing that’ to investigate conditional statements and identify common mistakes in interpreting such language.”

Why have i written three versions of the above sentence? Which do you find most motivating? Do any of those inspire the clicking of the linky?

If i put in ten minutes of mathematics study five days a week with the given materials within the textbook or online stuff, then I can know that the fifty minutes of study will contribute towards myself improving at mathematics that I studied.

If I don’t do the ten minutes of study five days a week for this week, then this week I won’t be working towards the goal of improving my mathematical skills.

Which is motivating for yourself?

Do you need someone else to kick you in the pants to get motivated?

Do you prefer to self-motivate?

What motivates yourself?

Do you truly know what motivates yourself?

What demotivates yourself? Does getting drunk on friday night motivate you to get up on saturday morning and study mathematics?

Will that half bag of marijuana help you understand probabilities?… it might.

What is the probability that I will do two hours of probability study if I get massively stoned right now?

Test it yourself. I have, my answer was less than zero point five percent.

Motivation comes AFTER doing something motivating. You feel good AFTER you’ve done something good.

Don’t be thinking, I’m going to study only when I feel like studying. What if you never feel like studying? You just going to give up because that is how you feel? Do your dreams, aims and goals NEED you to study?

If i don’t do anything at all, what have I achieved?

Given that I need to study to get more educated, to become more useful to society and myself, if i don’t study mathematics – what’s going to happen to me?

I choose to do this fifteen minutes of study right now, even though I am feeling down and tired, because I know that just doing the next fifteen minutes moves me forward. Afterwards I will feel comfortable because I made the effort and can relax and chill out for a bit and get back into study at such n such a time and place, on such and such a topic.

What is your next topic?

This topic was on “Chance” within the Statistics and Probability stream of year 10 mathematics.
